Garrick Fishing Trace 2-Hook Snell Rigging and Tips:

• Attach to Main Line: Secure the end of the trace (which typically has a swivel or loop) to your main fishing line or leader using a strong knot, like a figure-eight knot.
• Select Bait: This trace is often used with live bait, such as mullet or shad, but can also accommodate dead bait. Ensure the hook size corresponds to the size of your bait fish.
  • Live Bait: Insert one hook through the bait's nose or upper lip, and thread the second, free-moving hook through the side or tail section. Maintain the distance between the hooks to match the length of the bait, allowing for a natural presentation and movement. Secure your bait with bait thread.
• Casting: Cast the rigged bait into your targeted fishing area. The trace is designed to minimise tangling while preserving a natural presentation.
• Hook Setting:  When a fish takes the bait, it usually grabs it from the side and swims away.
  • Allow the fish to run and maneuver the bait to swallow it headfirst.
  • Keep your reel in free-spool with the ratchet engaged during this phase to provide minimal resistance.
  • Wait for the second, solid run that indicates the fish has fully taken the bait. Then set the hook with a firm, yet gentle, strike.
  • The snell knot ensures direct energy transfer for an efficient hook-up.
